Here’s a link to an excellent site: Stereo Viewing. (Note that I’ve been talking about convergent pairs only, as distinguished from divergent pairs, which are also discussed on that page.)

Here’s one further suggestion: once you have some success with all this, you’ll find that it’s easy to block out the blurry side images when you view stereo pairs by holding your hands open-palmed just a few inches in front of your eyes, parallel to the surface of the monitor. Now, because your eyes remain slightly crossed, the left eye can see only the image on the right, and the right eye can see only the image on the left. The brain puts these two together, and there’s 3D space before your very---though slightly crossed---eyes!
